Podcasts as learning tools and weekly words to open up your world
Our weekly sessions are made more exciting when we turn the news into a fun chat between a little girl and her cat!
Hello again, readers! We hope you have been well and are able to enjoy this lovely rainy weather from a safe and dry place. It’s been a busy time at the Owliver HQs — we are constantly inventing new ways to keep our young readers and participants engaged and excited about learning about the world. Here’s a glimpse into what we’ve been up to!
A friendly cat-chat over the world’s biggest headlines
Our in-house podcast — The Baani and Billi Show — has been an innovative and extremely valuable way to talk to children about current affairs and the world around them. Humour meets quirky meets educational is how we would describe this chat around some of the biggest headlines of our times. The characters of the excited little girl and her rather grumpy but oh-so-smart cat pick up a headline every two weeks and bring the topic to life in their own unique way!
History — Alter it or stick to facts?
Though a largely political matter, the news around the changing or doing away of chapters in history textbooks around certain historical figures and events has been doing the rounds for a while now. We steered away from the political ugliness to ask children about what they think about the dangers, or benefits, of altering history.
India inches towards a greener future
From July 1 onwards, India has decided to take measures to ban the use of single-use plastic — items like plastic straws, ear buds and cutlery that are used once before being discarded. The central government will work with states to ease businesses and departments to make the necessary changes. Do you think India will be able to pull this off?
A word to start your week!
Often, when we watch or read the news, we see or hear words we haven’t heard before. We decided to take an important, trending word for the week, and explain the significance around it, along with its meaning of course! This, our participants have found to be, an interesting way for them to learn about relevant world events.
That’s it from us this week, readers. Reach out to us on hello@owliverspost.com for any queries or interest in learning all about who we are, and what we do to make the world a little safer and happier for children!
